Two Days of Awesomeness with MyTaiwanTours!!
Fnishing off a two week vacay in Asia, we opted for a few days in Taiwan before heading stateside. We knew we could handle Taipei on our own - enough English is spoken - so a visit to the National Palace Museum, to the Taipei 101 skyscraper and the Food Courts below it, the Night Markets and Sunday Flower and Jade markets didn’t scare us, we knew we could do it.
But how to see something else of Taiwan besides the big city - that we didn’t know how to approach. Earlier on our trip a Brit we met in Korea raved about the Toroko Gorge, so we started searching on TripAdvisor. Lady Luck was on our side (or Karma or Feng Shui) - we stumbled across MyTaiwanTour. They offered a tour to Huelien which was instantly appealing: a short domestic flight to the eastern side of the island, a full day of private touring with an English speaking guide of the Gorge and the National Park, with a flight back to Taipei the same evening.
A quick call to MyTaiwanTour and speaking with a staff specialist convinced us this was just perfect for us. The price was quite reasonable, we went back online and booked it.
A brilliant decision - we were emailed a confirmation with instructions, very complete and easy to follow.
Simply put, it was just terrific. We were met at the airport in Huelien by Ivan, our driver and guide. Knowledgeable and enthusiastic with fine English, we were taken around the park for enjoyable hikes and walks, magnificent views of the mountains, the river and the marble gorge, explanations of the history and the culture of the indigenous peoples who were there first. The touring lasted the entire day, the pace was good but not exhausting. After finding a little dinner in town, we returned to the military base where our flights occurred to return back to Taipei, we were back at our hotel at 915PM. Efficient and reasonably priced, for us we’d never would have had the opportunity to visit the gorge any other way. Highly recommended!
We also booked for our final day a one day private tour of Taipei and the surrounding areas - it was completely flexible as to what we wanted to see, and as we had done the city, we wanted to see the environs. We were met on time at our hotel by Steven, our driver and guide. What others had written here prior about him was completely true, it was awesome to have him suggest a northern tour of the island, we immediately felt we were in really good hands. A safe and courteous driver, we viewed various places, from the fun and funky to the natural beauty of the island. His knowledge and experience helped to fill in the blanks we had about the history and politics of Taiwan, the Republic of China. Our day flew by fast, the conversation never lagged, his English is diplomatic and excellent and humorous and he even fulfilled our request for the last hour of the tour by taking us to a preferred electronics store to find the items we knew we’d not easily find at home. He translated, negotiated, and we succeeded. Fabulous! Can I repeat myself and again say highly recommended?!?…
