Casual visitors to Taiwan tend to stick close to the capital, but the southern half is where the real treasure trove of culture and history reside. It's also where you find the best beaches, and (apologies to our northern brethren) best examples of authentically Taiwanese cuisine. Our Southern Fun Tour brings you an unforgettable blend of sun, relaxation, and cultural immersion across Taiwan's most captivating destinations. Begin your journey at the vibrant beach resort town of Kenting, where you can swim, hike, or unwind along Taiwan's finest coastline. Experience the artistic energy of Pingtung to Kaohsiung—from the creative Shengli New Village to the stunning night views of Love River aboard a traditional gondola boat. Then venture to Tainan, Taiwan's ancient capital, where centuries of history come alive through historic landmarks, charming old districts, and the magnificent Anping fortress and ancient banyan tree.
Along the way, you'll discover sacred temples, swim in pristine waters, rejuvenate in natural geothermal mud springs, dine on regional delicacies you won't find anywhere else, and explore beautifully preserved cultural heritage sites. Wind down your adventure in the serene Japanese-inspired Hinoki Village before returning to Taipei. We promise five unforgettable days immersed in the authentic culture, natural beauty, and rich history of southern Taiwan—places you may not have heard of before, but to which you'll absolutely want to return.

ITINERARY
Day 1 / Taipei - Kenting
Day one begins with a high-speed train ride down the west coast on Taiwan’s efficient high-speed rail. With a top speed of 300 kilometers per hour, you’ll reach the southernmost city, Kaohsiung, less than two hours after leaving Taipei. We’ll save cultural exploration for tomorrow; today, we’re hitting the beach, heading from the station by van to the island’s southern tip, the beach town of Kenting. After checking into a beachfront resort, we’ll have the rest of the day to swim, hike, bicycle, or just soak up the rays. When the sun goes down, we’ll explore the excellent night market and livel
Day 2 / Kenting - Kaohsiung
Leaving the beach is hard, so on day two, we’ll leave some time to get in a morning swim or two before checking out around 10:30 a.m. We’ll then head north, stopping in Shengli Star Village and Pingtung 1936 Tobacco Culture Base, two of the newest and most popular landmarks in Pingtung. We'll explore the local cultural and creative talents that have been fostered and invited to station here, facilitating the sustainable development of Pingtung's local cultural and creative energy. Back in Kaohsiung, we’ll visit the Pier 2 art center and further explore the charm of the port city of Kaohsiung.
Day 3 / Kaohsuing - Tainan
After breakfast at our hotel, the spiritual portion of our journey begins. We’ll head first to the stunning Fo Guang Shan Buddha Museum, a vast religious complex containing eight pagodas (each dedicated to a specific virtue) and grand meditation halls, all overlooked with loving grace by a 108-meter-high statue of the Buddha. We’ll then head to the ancient capital of Tainan, where will visit the island’s oldest Confucian temple and the nearby tourist attractions. We’ll explore and eat great food before ending the day at our hotel.
Day 4 / Tainan
On day four, we embark on a journey through Tainan's rich cultural heritage. We begin by exploring the historic landmarks and cultural sites of Taiwan's ancient capital, tracing centuries of history and tradition. Next, we venture to the picturesque Anping District, where charming old streets reveal the layers of Tainan's past. We'll visit the impressive Anping Old Fort and step inside the magnificent ancient banyan tree house, remnants of Taiwan's 17th-century colonial era. Along the way, we'll savor delicious local snacks at Anping Old Street, experiencing authentic flavors that have defined this historic district for generations. As the day progresses, we head to Jing Zhai Jiao Tile Paved Salt Fields to witness the breathtaking sunrise, where vast geometric patterns of salt ponds create a stunning natural landscape that shifts with the changing light of dawn.
Day 5 / Tainan-Chiayi-Taipei
Today, we’ll head to the hot-spring (and mud-spring) resort of Guanziling for relaxation, rejuvenation, and exfoliation before heading back home. After the mudspring, we'll drive up to Chiayi City for lunch. The famous fish head hot pot introduced by Netflix's "Street Food" series and turkey rice are highly recommended. After lunch, visit the nearby Hinoki Village, one of the best-preserved Japanese-style building complexes in Taiwan. This area used to be a staff dormitory during the Japanese Occupation. After World War II, it was converted into a staff dormitory for the Forest Service Bureau.
