Reuniting Hearts: A Journey to Rediscover Family Ties in Yangmingshan

A Chinese-American lady from the United States brought her son to Taiwan with the hope of exploring more than just a day trip in Taipei. She also wanted to visit Yangmingshan to find her father's grave. Her father passed away 45 years ago, and she had immigrated to the United States with her mother. Her last visit to Taiwan was 30 years ago. The only clue she had to find her father's grave was a note left by her mother, which had her father's name and date of passing written on it.

They reached out to MyTaiwanTour to include a visit to Yangmingshan in their Taipei day trip itinerary, requesting the guide's assistance in locating her father's grave. The weather was nice on the day they went. They arrived at Yangmingshan First Cemetery. However, the cemetery office staff couldn't find any record of her father in the computerized data. The guide was persistent and sought help, eventually locating a long-serving cemetery staff member who had been there for 40 years. This staff member searched through old, handwritten records that hadn't been digitized. They found the one and only registry that hadn't been entered into the computer system, and her father's name was written in it with a brush.

Following the registration number, they made their way to the burial site. However, due to years of renovations and reorganization, the tombstone markers had been moved, and they could only search in the general area. After searching for over an hour on the hilltop, they unexpectedly found a pile of broken stone fragments in a corner overgrown with weeds. With some effort, they managed to piece together the fragments into her father's name. Standing there, they reunited with her father after 45 years, in that corner amidst the overgrown weeds.

The guests immediately decided to invest in rebuilding her father's tombstone to give him a proper memorial. With the help of the travel agency's arrangements, a new tombstone was completed within a week. The guide once again took the guests up the mountain to take a photo with the new tombstone, completing this journey of reconnection and fulfillment.
